Our souls include our mind, will, and heart or emotions. We often let feelings get the best of us, and they take the lead and lead us astray. When we are led astray by our emotions, we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us, and problems can easily multiply.

We’ve all seen it. Some loud yelling from a young child who is bellowing out uncontrollably in a tantrum interrupts our supermarket shopping. We see only the result, but what if we had a video picture of all the events of the past that led up to that tantrum? Why does a child go into tantrums? Why do they seek attention? Why do adults still seek attention from others? Why do seniors seek attention? At freedomtruthseekers.com, we major on cause and effect. We seek root causes. Our rapping grandma tells us how being negative steals the abundant life God has for us in “Missing Out on the Abundant Life.” She refers to Jonah, who sat under a tree and wanted to die. She reads passages from Joel that talk about aliens and giants coming back. The lesson is this: if you are led astray by emotions now, what will you do if you are faced with devouring giants and strange, dangerous aliens at the very end? The good news is, if you control your emotions now by God’s grace, you won’t even have to face the giants. As Joyce raps, “For no sickness will be allowed to stay, All negative emotions will be driven away…Hallelujah, it will be so much fun, No sadness, sin, sorrow, or decay, Everyone will want to go Your way, No demons there to steal, destroy, or kill, No one will ever need to take a pill…” Take God’s medicine instead, and enjoy the abundant life!

Grumpy, dumpy, and miserable? Does that describe you or someone close to you? How do you overcome this problem? How do you deal with someone who is in such a miserable attitude? God tells us to dwell on the positive things (Phil. 4:8). Have you lost the joy of Jesus? Maybe you never had it. Now is the time to respond to the call of Jesus if He is beckoning you. We live in a complaining society where the news we hear is almost always bad. It is all too easy to become complainers and make ourselves and everyone around us miserable by our grumpiness and negative words. Yet Jesus commands to employ His grace to quit the pouting and complaining (Phil. 2:14). The time is coming soon when you will truly have something to complain about.
